Anonymous permissions for public folder are set to Contributor in Exchange 2000 (273412)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q273412

SYMPTOMS

When you use any Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) client computer that is running Microsoft Outlook 97, Microsoft Outlook 98 or Microsoft Outlook 2000 to log on to an Exchange 2000 computer, and then create a public folder, the default anonymous permission is set to Contributor. However, when you use the same MAPI Outlook client to log on to an Exchange Server 5.5 computer, the default anonymous permission is set to None.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The default anonymous permissions were changed in Exchange 2000 so that messages that are sent from outside the organization are sent from Anonymous rather than Everyone. The folder owner still has the option to change the folder permissions.
