XADM: You Can Access Two Mailboxes When You Use IFS (273171)

When you attempt to access your mailbox folder on the Exchange Installable File System (IFS) volume, one of the following symptoms may occur:
- You receive the following error message:
Access is denied.
- You can access two mailboxes by using the Exchange IFS volume.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because Exchange 2000 uses the mailbox's globally unique identifier (GUID) from the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address to access the mailbox when you are using Exchange IFS. Therefore, two names are generated for one mailbox, the user's alias name, and the first part of the user's SMTP address.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, always change folders so that you use the SMTP address of the mailbox instead of the user account (alias) name of the mailbox.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
