Microsoft Reader: Cannot Read an eBook That You Purchased Online (271271)

SYMPTOMS

When you open an eBook that you purchased online in Microsoft Reader for the Pocket PC, you may experience either of the following symptoms:
  • You can view the title page, but all other pages are blank.
  • You receive an invalid format error message when you attempt to read beyond the first page.
You may also see an error message similar to the following:
The following error occured. 0x80004005 (-2147467259) OKAY - fatal error occured.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Microsoft Reader for the Pocket PC does not support the latest security technology for eBooks. The latest security innovations prevent eBook piracy, and require server-based activation.

At this time, only Microsoft Reader version 1.5 for desktop and laptop computers supports the latest security technology for eBooks.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain a software update for Microsoft Reader for the Pocket PC when a software update becomes available from Microsoft.
