Message Box Using MB_SERVICE_NOTIFICATION May Not Exit the Process (270610)

If any thread in a process is waiting for an MB_SERVICE_NOTIFICATION type of message box, the process object does not exit even after the process exits normally (by using the ExitProcess function) or abnormally (with an exception or by using the TerminateProcess function). The process object is not released until the message box is dismissed. This behavior occurs only in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 and Service Pack 6A, and in Windows 2000.
