Audio Pauses Briefly During Source Group Switch (270050)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7
  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7.1

This article was previously published under Q270050

SYMPTOMS

When you create an encoding session with more than one Source Group, when you switch between the Source Groups a noticeable pause occurs in the audio. This occurs even if the audio device in the Source Groups is the same.

CAUSE

When you switch between the Source Groups, the Windows Media Encoder resets all the devices to match those that are defined by the new Source Group. During the brief reset, the Encoder injects a brief silence to ensure that the Encoder is receiving some form of data, and does not automatically cut off because it is not receiving a signal.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
