The "Disable Features Not Supported by Word 97" option does not work in the Japanese version of Word 2000 (270017)

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Japanese Word 2000 document that contains features that are not supported by Word 97, you do not receive the following warning message as you expect:
Some of the features in this document aren't supported by Microsoft Word 97
Word saves the document with features that are not supported by Word 97.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

IMPORTANT: Before you install Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3), you must have Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a) installed first. WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps before you save your document:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Save tab, click to clear the Disable features not supported by Word 97 check box. Then click OK.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  4. On the Save tab, click to select the Disable features not supported by Word 97 check box. Then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in the Microsoft Word 2000 Security Update: Macro Vulnerability.
