SUMMARY

When you create a template with a Microsoft Works program or Microsoft Word and you then save the template, you may not be able to find the template on the History tab of the Works Task Launcher and you may not know how to access your new template.

This article tells you which Works programs you can use to create templates, and how you can access the templates that you create.

In Works 6, you can create templates for Works Word Processor documents, Works Spreadsheet, and Works Database. In Works Suite 2001, you can create templates in Works Spreadsheet, Works Database, and also in Microsoft Word. You can use templates to save font type, font size and color, column formatting, inserted objects, and other types of formatting. A template is useful when you use a similar document style several times.

To create a template in Works Word Processor, Works Spreadsheet, or Works Database, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Works application that you want to create the template in (Works Word Processor, Works Spreadsheet, or Works Database).
  2. Change any font formatting and column formatting, add borders and objects, and make any other changes that you want in your template.
  3. On the File menu, click Save As.
  4. In the Save As dialog box, click Template.
  5. Type a name for the template and then click OK.
  6. Quit the program.
To create a template in Word 2000, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word 2000.
  2. Change any font formatting and column formatting, add borders and objects, and make any other changes that you want in your template.
  3. On the File menu, click Save As.
  4. In the Save as type box, click Document Template (*.dot).
  5. Type a name for the template in the File name box, and then click Save.
  6. Quit Word.
To find and use a template, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. Start the Works Task Launcher.
  2. Click the Tasks tab.
  3. In the Tasks pane, click Personal Templates.

    All the templates that you created appear in the right pane.
  4. Click the template that you want.
  5. Click Start this task.

Method 2

  1. Start the Works Task Launcher.
  2. Click the Programs tab.
  3. In the Programs pane, click the application that you want.

    All the templates that you created for that application appear in the right pane, along with all the templates that are provided by Microsoft with the Works application.

    NOTE: The templates are listed alphabetically without regard to whether you created them or whether they are provided by Microsoft.
  4. Click the template that you want.
  5. Click Start this task.
