Works: Colors of Black-and-White TIFF Images Are Reversed in Word Processor (269981)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 6
  • Microsoft Works 7.0

This article was previously published under Q269981

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a black-and-white image into a Microsoft Works Word Processor document, the colors may be reversed in the image preview in the Insert Picture dialog box, and then the colors remain reversed when you insert the image into the Works Word Processor document.

There is no way to know in advance whether the file will reverse colors or not until you attempt to insert it into a Works Word Processor document.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you try to insert Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) images into a Works Word Processor document.

Images that are especially prone to this issue include black-and-white images with a bold black outline, especially if the images contain extensive detail, such as a black-and-white cartoon.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, convert the TIFF image to a Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) image, and then insert the JPEG image into the Works Word Processor document.

To convert a TIFF image to a JPEG image, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Imaging.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Locate the image that you want, and then click Open.
  4. On the File menu, click Save As.
  5. Type the name of the folder that you want in the Save in box.
  6. Click JPG File (*.jpg) in the Save as type box.
  7. Type the file name that you want in the File name box, and then click Save.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Works 6.
