Works 6: Object Inserted into Header or Footer Cannot Be Resized (269972)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 6
  • Microsoft Works 7.0

This article was previously published under Q269972

SYMPTOMS

When you insert or paste an object (for example, a picture) into the header or footer of a Microsoft Works Word Processor document, the the object cannot be vertically resized to exceed the upper and lower boundaries of the header and footer. This problem occurs even if the upper and lower boundaries of the header or footer are not at the maximum limits.

The upper and lower boundaries of the header or footer do expand when the object is inserted or pasted, but the boundaries do not expand when you attempt to resize the object.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the header and footer boundaries expand only when text is entered.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Click inside the header or footer.
  2. Press ENTER until the boundaries increase to the size that you want (the maximum size varies, depending upon the paper size).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 6.

MORE INFORMATION

To resize an object such as a picture and keep the object properly proportioned, use the mouse pointer to grab a corner selection handle, and then press SHIFT while you resize the object.
