MORE INFORMATION

Operating System

FoneSync works as expected on Microsoft Windows 95 or newer Windows operating systems (Microsoft Windows 2000 Western language versions only).

Hardware Requirements to Synchronize with a Handset

To synchronize with a handset, you need one of the following components, depending on the current capabilities of your computer:
  • A serial cable compatible with your handset
  • A PCMCIA card and cable compatible with your handset
  • Infrared capability on your handset and computer
  • FoneSync's SmartLynx GSM SIM card reader/writer

Synchronizing Notes

  • Back up your data before synchronization.
  • Data should not be edited in any personal information manager (PIM) program during synchronization with FoneSync because many PIMs automatically synchronize data with other PIMs.
  • During synchronization with a PIM, do not change details in the PIM because the synchronization process may overwrite your changes.
  • Deletions made in FoneSync override conflicting edits made elsewhere.
  • If you delete an entry in FoneSync, the entry is deleted in all other synchronization points.

How to Contact FoneSync

  • By voice: In the United States, call 1-804-355-0600.
  • Over the Internet: www.FoneSync.comMicrosoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.

Using Internet PIM Viewers

Internet PIMs require components from Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or newer. Connection to the PIM Web sites may not be possible with an earlier version of Internet Explorer, and you may receive the following error message:
Failed to request contacts

Minimum Computer Screen Requirements

FoneSync is optimized for a computer screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or greater. Some FoneSync screens may not be displayed as expected if your computer screen resolution is set to 640 x 480 pixels or less.

Synchronization with Outlook Express

If the Birthday field is populated in FoneSync, and FoneSync is then synchronized with Outlook Express, both the Birthday and Anniversary fields in Outlook Express are populated with the Birthday date. The Children field is populated with blank data.

Windows 98 Power Save

Windows 98 Power Save can disrupt power to a PCMCIA data card, and cause the PCMCIA data card to be suspended. When you attempt to connect, the computer does not awaken and the connection fails. For more information, go to the FoneSync Web site (see the "How to Contact FoneSync" section) and refer to the frequently asked questions (FAQs).

COM Port Failure with Palm Pilot

The Palm Pilot's software on your computer may keep the communication (COM) port open all the time so that when you connect your Palm Pilot and press the HotSync button, it synchronizes without any user intervention on the computer.

Palm Pilot offers three setup options regarding the HotSync Manager:
  1. Always available
  2. Available only when Palm Pilot Desktop is running
  3. Manual (You start HotSync Manager yourself)
If you select option 3, the COM port is released.

Microsoft recommends that you use a different, unused COM port (if you have one) for your connection to Palm Pilot. Otherwise, you have to reconfigure to use option 3.
