INF: SQL Server Service Manager Does Not Immediately Indicate Service Status (269487)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions)

This article was previously published under Q269487

SUMMARY

On a busy server it may take several seconds to stop or start one of the SQL Server services by using the SQL Server Service Manager. If the SQL Server Service Manager is opened and the control buttons are used to start or stop a service, all the buttons are dimmed or disabled until the action completes. However, the Service Control Manager icon on the menu bar immediately changes color to reflect the state of the requested action. When the state change completes, the control buttons are enabled.

MORE INFORMATION

The speed at which the service status in Service Manager is updated is affected by the speed of the computer and the application load. The SQL Server Service Manager task bar icon shows an immediate change of state because this icon is updated as one of the first few steps during the process of stopping or starting the service.
