SYMPTOMS

When you synchronize your Handheld PC (H/PC) or Palm-size PC (P/PC) device by using Microsoft ActiveSync 3.0 or later, you may receive the following error message:
OUTLOOK caused an invalid page fault in module MSO9.DLL memory address.
Where memory address is an address that may vary depending on your software instillation.

CAUSE

ActiveSync 3.0 and later require the full Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) version of Outlook. This is known as Corporate or Workgroup (CW) mode. When Outlook is installed in Internet Mail Only (IMO) mode, Outlook does not have the full MAPI capabilities, so the synchronization procedure does not work.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove your Windows CE-based device from the cable or cradle and quit all programs except Outlook. You may need the original installation source or CD-ROM during this process. To change the installation type from IMO mode to CW mode:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Mail Delivery tab, click Reconfigure Mail Support.
  3. In the E-mail Service Options dialog box, click to select Corporate or Workgroup, and then click Next.
  4. Read the warning message, and then click Yes.
  5. Start Outlook. The Windows Installer starts and installs the required files.
