To Back Up the DFS Structure

To back up the DFS volume structure at a command prompt, type DFSCMD /VIEW \\DFSNAME\DFSSHARE /BATCH >> "path\file name.bat", and then press ENTER, where path\file name.bat is the path and file name you choose. This command creates a file that contains the required information for restoring the volume structure for all of the DFS links.

To Restore the DFS Structure

To restore the DFS volume structure:
  1. Re-create the DFS root from the DFS manager:
    1. Run Distributed File System from Administrative Tools.
    2. On the Action menu, click New DFS Root.
    3. Click Next, and then choose the proper type of DFS root for your domain.
    4. Select the server that will host the DFS root, and then click Next.
    5. Select the share that will become the DFS Root Share, and then click Next.
    6. Insert a comment, click Next, and then click Finish. The new DFS root is available now.
  2. Run the batch file you previously created to restore the volume structure. After you run the batch file, verify that the structure has been properly created.
For more information about the DFSCMD command, type DFSCMD /? at a command prompt, and then press ENTER.
