SMTP Access Violation Occurs During Shutdown in I/O Completion Routine (268993)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System 2.0

This article was previously published under Q268993

SYMPTOMS

An Access Violation error message may occur in Inetinfo. This may be due to a failure to access an Asynchronous SMTP service I/O operation because it appears to have been previously freed. As a result, the Access Violation error message occurs and DrWtsn32 reports this.

CAUSE

The asynchronous I/O operation cannot be referenced because it is no longer valid. This appears to be the result of a synchronization issue that occurs during the process of service shutdown.
