Strategic Commander: Profile Notes Are Not Saved After You Paste Text (268946)

SYMPTOMS

When you paste text in the Profile Notes screen in the Microsoft SideWinder Strategic Commander software and then you save the profile, the text that you pasted may not be saved.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You use the Cut command on the File menu before you paste the text in the Profile Notes screen.
  • You do not save the profile after you use the Cut command.
  • You cut and paste the text in the same Profile Note.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use any of the following methods:

Copy and Paste the Text

On the File menu, use the Copy command instead of the Cut command before you paste the text in the Profile Notes screen.

Use Keyboard Commands

Use the following keyboard commands to cut and paste the text in the Profile Notes screen.

Save the Profile After You Cut the Text

To save the profile after you cut the text:
  1. Start the SideWinder Strategic Commander software.
  2. Open the profile that you want to edit, or create a new profile.
  3. Click Profile Notes.
  4. Highlight the text in the Profile Note that you want to cut.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
  6. On the File menu, click Save.
  7. Click Save over existing, and then click OK.
  8. Click the Profile Notes screen to place the insertion point where you want to paste the text, and then click Paste on the File menu.
  9. On the File menu, click Save.
  10. Click Save over existing, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft SideWinder Strategic Commander.

To back up your Profile Notes, use Notepad to save a text (.txt) file that contains the text that you want to back up:
  1. In the Profile Notes screen, copy the text that you want to back up.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type notepad, and then click OK.
  4. In Notepad, click Paste on the File menu.
  5. On the File menu, click Save.
  6. In the Save in box, click the folder in which you want to save the file.
  7. In the File name box, type a name for the file, and then click Save.
