Note The fix described in this article is designed for independent hardware vendors (IHVs) and original equipment manufactures (OEMs). The fix details the binaries needed to enable IHVs and OEMs to use the Microsoft Print Stack instead of the Print Stack they currently use. If you are an end-user that has the issue described in this article, please install the software bundled with your printer or contact your printer manufacturer.

Important Windows 98 has reached the end of its support lifecycle. Microsoft no longer provides redistribution rights to IHVs and OEMs for the fix described in this article. If you have problems with your USB printer in Windows 98, Microsoft recommends that you upgrade your operating system or contact your printer manufacturer for assistance.

SYMPTOMS

You may be unable to print to a Universal Serial Bus (USB) printer. When you connect a USB printer, the USB driver attempts to enumerate the device. However, the USB printer may not be recognized or installed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
