SYMPTOMS

Dr. DNS is a tool that you can use to detect DNS configuration issues. You can use Dr. DNS to:
  • Provide diagnostics of the DNS configuration and explain to a user what modifications are required before you promote a new domain controller or join a computer to an Active Directory domain.
  • Find what caused the discovery of the existing domain controller during an attempt to join a domain or promote a new DC in a new or existing forest to not work.
  • Find what caused the DC Locator DNS records registration to not work.
The Dr. DNS functionality is incorporated into both the Netdiag.exe and Dcdiag.exe tools to help simplify debugging DNS configurations.
