This article was previously published under Q268308

SYMPTOMS

When a host player leaves a Microsoft SideWinder Game Voice game or chat session, the session may pause for 15 to 120 seconds before the software designates the next qualifying player as the host. During this pause, nobody can gain access to the host options, and nobody can join the session.

NOTE: The pause between the departure of a host and the selection of a new host is known as the "Host Migration."

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if one or more of the following conditions is true:
  • Traffic on the Internet or the network is extremely heavy.
  • System resources are low on one or more of the computers in the session.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, wait for the Host Migration to finish, and then continue with the game or chat session.

To resolve this issue, improve the performance of the SideWinder Game Voice software on all of the computers in the session.
