WMP 7 and 7.1: Adding New Stream to the Media Library Does Not Preserve Artist Name or Genre Information (268281)

When you add a new stream in Microsoft Windows Media Player 7 or 7.1, the artist name or genre information that appears in the title is not preserved or carried over when you view it in the Media Library. When you right-click the newly-added stream, and then click Properties, the artist and genre information is missing or unknown.
CAUSE
When the stream is added, it is actually the playlist or ASX (a Windows Media format), which may not contain this information. The source file contains this information; the source file is added when the file is downloaded and registered with the Media Library.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
- Click Media Guide to open the Media Guide page.
- Click any featured link, for example, from the broadband page. Examine the title to make sure it contains valid artist and/or genre information.
- After the title starts playing, right-click it, and then click add to playlist.
- Select any existing playlist and add the title.
- Click Media Library to open the Media Library page.
- Click the All Audio, All Clips, or Playlists node and find the newly-added stream.
