SUMMARY

This article describes how to limit user access to images that are available on a remote installation server by administering permissions on files that are in the shared Remoteinstall folder.

MORE INFORMATION

When each new image is posted to the remote installation server, a new folder structure is built for the images. However, an administrator may want to hide or limit the available images in their remote installation server environment due to expanded features that may not be necessary for end-user computers.

By limiting file permissions on a setup file for each remote installation server image, an administrator can control the available images that are posted to a remote installation server.

Locate the Ristndrd.sif file in the following folder (where LangPack is the Language version of the operating system and Flat name is the file name that is assigned when the image is posted):

%RemoteInstall%\Setup\LangPack\Images\Flat name\I386\Templates

By revoking the Read and Read and Execute permissions on this file to hide each image from end users, an administrator can limit which remote installation server images are available to their users.

Permissions on these files should not be revoked for the Domain Administrators group. Also, it is recommended that the administrator sets the permissions according to user groups rather than individual-user accounts.
