Disabling the Write-Behind Caching Setting Does Not Disable All Write-Behind Caching on the System (268154)

SYMPTOMS

If you select the Disable write-behind caching for all drives option on the Troubleshooting tab in the File System properties, this option does not disable the Enable write-behind caching on all removable disk drives setting on the Removable Disks tab.

WORKAROUND

To completely disable write-behind caching, click to clear the Enable write-behind caching on all removable disk drives option. This option is found on the Removable Disk tab in the File System properties.

To Completely Disable Write-Behind Caching

  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click File System, and then click the Removable Disk tab.
  3. Click to clear the Enable write-behind caching on all removable disk drives option.
  4. Click OK, click Close, and then restart the computer when prompted.
