SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade a Laptop computer to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you can have an additional hardware profile listed under Start,Settings, Control Panel, System, and the Hardware Profiles tab.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because real-mode profile detection is no longer included in the Io.sys file, and Windows Me needs to create a new base hardware profile.
