SYMPTOMS

When you hot dock a Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based Toshiba Tecra 750CDT portable computer to a DeskStation V Plus, the internal Windows Driver Model (WDM) modem may not work.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because the modem cannot find a free interrupt request (IRQ).

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, restart the Toshiba Tecra 750CDT computer to find IRQs for your hardware devices on the computer itself.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is specific to the Toshiba Tecra 750CDT portable computer and occurs only after hot docking.

Initially, the modem is assigned to IRQ 3 when you start the Toshiba Tecra 750CDT computer while it is in or out of the dock. When you hot dock the computer, several devices may attempt to use IRQ 3, thus preventing the modem from using it. When your computer is in the dock, these devices are assigned to IRQ 11, but when you hot dock the computer, they attempt to use IRQ 3.
