SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a shared folder that contains the Euro symbol in the share name, you may receive one of the following error messages:
\\computer name\drive\share name_ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, on a network, or on a different computer on your home network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or home network, and they try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.
The folder '\\computer name\drive\share name_' does not exist.
NOTE: The Euro symbol in the share name is replaced with an underscore "_" character.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Windows system code page does not provide support for the Euro character.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, rename the share and do not use the Euro character in the share name.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
