BUG: HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH Environment Variables Not Set in Windows Installer (266382)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the system environment variables HOMEDRIVE or HOMEPATH in a Windows Installer installation package, you may receive an error message like this one during the installation:
2343 - Specified path is empty

CAUSE

This is due to a bug in the Windows Installer environment variable retrieval code. This bug is only present on Windows 2000 and does not apply to Windows NT 4.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
