Error Message When You Connect Your Digital Video Camera to Your Computer After You Upgrade to Windows Millennium Edition (265649)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Windows Movie Maker and connect a digital video camera to your computer, you may receive the following error message:

The file 'sonydvcr.sys' was not found. Windows needs the disk labeled 'Windows Millennium Edition' to continue.

Also, you cannot find the Sonydvcr.sys file on the Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM.

You may experience this behavior if you upgrade to Windows Me on a Sony VAIO computer with an i.LINK IEEE 1394 interface or if you use Sony drivers for your IEEE 1394 Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) controller.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because IEEE 1394 OHCI controller drivers are not upgraded during the Windows Me installation procedure. The drivers are not updated to ensure that the drivers remain compatible with the programs that came with your digital video camera. Some digital video camera programs are specifically designed to interact with the hardware by using their own drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, upgrade the drivers that were included with Windows Me, or obtain updated drivers for the IEEE 1394 OHCI controller from Sony.
