Windows Media Player 7.0 Now Playing Tools Do Not Work When a CD Is in Analog Playback Mode (265480)

SYMPTOMS

While playing a audio CD in Analog Playback mode, the Microsoft Windows Media Player 7.0 Now Playing Tools, (Visualization, SRS stereo, and Equalizer) fail to modify sound quality.

CAUSE

The CD Audio is set to use the Analog Playback mode.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure Windows Media Player to use Digital Playback mode:
  1. Start Windows Media Player in Full Mode. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click Digital Playback, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

Because the Analog Playback mode only controls the CD-ROM and the audio is processed by the soundcard, there is no traffic through Wave Out for the Now Playing Tools to monitor and modify sound quality.
