Using a Neomagic MagicMedia 256 audio card, you may lose the Preferred Playback device setting in the Sound and Multimedia tool in Control Panel when you disable and re-enable the audio card.
When this happens, you may be:
- Unable to play any system sounds.
- Unable to open any volume controls.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, restart your computer. The Preferred Playback setting is reset after restarting the computer.
