WD2000: Document Icons Change to Previous Version of Word (265187)

SYMPTOMS

If you have Microsoft Word 97 for Windows installed on a system with Microsoft Word 2000, when you start Microsoft Word 97 for Windows and then restart Microsoft Windows, your document icons change to the Word 97 document icon.

This problem also affects the document icons when they are viewed by using Windows Explorer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and restore your Word 2000 document icons, do one of the following:
  • Start Microsoft Word 2000 and then restart Windows.

    NOTE: If you again start Word 97 and restart Windows, your Word 2000 document icons change to the Word 97 document icon.

    -or-
  • After you quit Word 97, start Word 2000 before you restart Windows. Your Word 2000 documents should now retain the Word 2000 document icon after you restart Windows.
