SYMPTOMS

When you type a misspelled word in an Outlook Express e-mail message and then run the spelling checker, the spelling checker dialog box lists the suggested correct spelling in a font that is too large to read.

CAUSE

This occurs if you have set the Windows Display Properties to a font that is larger than 11 points. By default the Windows Display Properties font is set at 8 points.

WORKAROUND

To change your Windows Display Properties font size to 8 points:
  1. Quit Outlook Express.
  2. Right-click a blank area on you desktop, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Appearance tab.
  4. In the Item box, click Icon.
  5. In the "Font" section, click 8 in the Size box, and then click OK.
NOTE: These steps change the icon font throughout Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not impact the ability of the spelling checker to work properly. It simply enlarges the font that is used in the Spelling dialog box to a size that is difficult to read.

This problem does not occur in Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Microsoft Outlook 98.
