Smart Card Certificate Propagation May Delay the Log Off Procedure (265087)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to log off of a workstation that has smart card installed, there may be up to a one minute delay.

CAUSE

This delay can occur if you log on to a workstation, lock the workstation and let a screen saver run for a few minutes, unlock the workstation, and then try to log off.

The delay occurs in the Winlogon process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English-language version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, disable smart card certificate propagation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
