SYMPTOMS

When you reinstall Office 2000, either in Maintenance mode or after completely removing Office, modifications that you made by using a Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) transform are not applied. None of the files, registry keys, added installations, or programs that are included in the transform are reinstalled or run again.

CAUSE

Any files, registry keys, shortcuts, and added installations and programs are considered user data.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Start the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the Product ID of the Office product that you installed under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard\1.0\RegKeyPaths

  3. Click the Product ID, and then delete the value named OCWAddedContentWritten.
  4. Close the Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
