XCCC: Changes to Virtual Directory Settings Are Not Maintained (264941)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q264941

SYMPTOMS

After you modify the virtual directory settings in the Internet Services Manager, the changes are applied but the settings revert to their original values after a short period of time.

Virtual directory settings that affected include Access Control levels such as read, write, script, directory browsing; Execution permissions such as none, scripts only, scripts and executables; and Authentication settings such as anonymous, basic and windows integrated.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because every fifteen minutes, the directory service synchronizes with the metabase. This process overwrites new configuration information in the local metabase with configuration information that was last set in Active Directory by using the Exchange System Manager snap-in.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the configuration for Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access (OWA) virtual directories with the Exchange System Manager snap-in.
