FP2000: Subweb Authors Are Unable to Write New Content After Extensions Are Upgraded (264798)

This article was previously published under Q264798 SYMPTOMS
After a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer (which functions as a server for Microsoft FrontPage webs and subwebs) is upgraded to FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, users with authoring permission on subwebs may no longer be able write new content for that subweb. Only those users in the Administrators group are permitted to write new content.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if users do not have at least Browse permission on the root web of the server or virtual root server of the subweb. This is true even if Everyone can browse is set on the Users tab of Permissions in the FrontPage client, because this setting applies to only the anonymous account, not to the "Everyone" group.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, set Browse permissions for each of the users in the root web or virtual root server of the subweb.
