SYMPTOMS

If you have a SoundBlaster 16 sound card with the CT4170 chipset, your computer may be unstable after it comes out of Standby mode and you play an audio file.

NOTE: The chipset information is printed in white letters on the actual sound card.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, turn off the Power Management options for Standby:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Options.
  2. Set the System stand by option to Never, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior only occurs with this chipset (CT4170) in an APM computer. The WDM driver and the Creative VXD driver both exhibit the same behavior.

STATUS
