Event is not logged when a message is deleted (264161)

This article describes why no event is logged in the message tracking log when you delete a message.

A message resides in a connector's queue if the destination is currently unreachable. If you delete the message from the queue by using the Delete (no NDR) option in the Exchange Service Manager, no event is reported in the message tracking log.

The message history file reports the following actions:

Tracked message history on server EXCHSRV1
-SMTP Store Driver: Message Submitted from Store
-SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing
-SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue
-SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer

Because an event that indicates what happened to the message is not reported in the message tracking log, it seems that the message vanished.

To configure the application log to report an event for every non-delivery report (NDR), set the Diagnostic Logging level on MSExchange Transport to Maximum.
