SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to create a shortcut to an Outlook folder on your Microsoft Windows 2000 desktop, you may receive the following dialog box:
Do you want to add an active desktop item to your desktop?
When you click Yes, you receive the following message:
Internet Explorer doesn't support synchronizing this type of URL.
When you click OK, the shortcut is not created.

WORKAROUND

To create an Outlook folder shortcut on your desktop:
  1. Start Outlook.
  2. Resize the Outlook window so that you can see your desktop in the background. To do this, either click the Maximize button in the Outlook window, or place your cursor on each corner of the Outlook window, left-click, and then expand the window in or out.
  3. In the Folder List pane or on the Outlook Shortcut Bar, right-click the Outlook folder for which you want to create a shortcut, and then drag the folder to your desktop.

If you do not see the Folder List pane, click Folder List on the View menu.
  4. When you receive a dialog box with the following options, click Copy Here:
    • Copy Here
    • Move Here
    • Create Active Desktop shortcut here
