SYMPTOMS

When you change the decimal seperator with the Regional Settings (Regional Options in Windows 2000), and you then enter a decimal number into a Works 2000 Spreadsheet cell, the comma disappears.

For example, 1,23 becomes 123.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the digit grouping symbol is identical to the decimal symbol. The default digit grouping symbol is a comma.

Note Digit grouping is the seperation of hundreds from thousands and so on. For example, 1000 is written as 1,000 if the comma is the digit grouping symbol.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, change the digit grouping symbol to something other than a comma, or replace the digit grouping symbol with a space.

To change the digit grouping symbol, follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start.
  2. Point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Regional Settings (Regional Options in Windows 2000).
  4. Click the Number tab.
  5. In the Digit grouping symbol box, type the symbol that you want or replace the symbol with a blank space, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
