This article was previously published under Q263507

SYMPTOMS

When you create dynamic objects that are part of a class that has the Allow Children option selected, the Site Server LDAP Service : Current Dynamic Object Performance Monitor (PerfMon) counter increases correctly. However, when the objects time-to-live (TTL) expires, and the object is removed from the directory, the counter does not decrease. When this counter reaches the configured maximum dynamic entries for the LDAP instance (5,000 by default), no more dynamic objects can be created. You may also receive an Event ID 399 in the System Event Log from source LDAPSVC.

CAUSE

Dynamic child objects are not cleared from the counter when the TTL expires.

RESOLUTION

MORE INFORMATION

If you add an object that is part of a class that "allows children" in the Site Server Dynamic Directory, according to the Site Server LDAP Service : Current Dynamic Objects PerfMon counter that object is never released, even though the object is gone when you enumerate the container after its TTL expires.
