Authentication Fails When You Try to Authenticate Users in the Members Subcontainer (263265)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q263265

SYMPTOMS

Authentication fails when you try to authenticate a user who is in a subcontainer of the Members container (for example, cn=user,ou=subcontainer,ou=Members,o=Organization).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the ou=Members container is the default container that is used to store all members of a Personalization and Membership site. Many of the tools that are used with Site Server, such as the default Active User Object (AUO) provider, are configured to look in this container for members.

WORKAROUND

To authenticate a user who belongs to a subcontainer of the Members container, you must include the subcontainer name and the user name (for example, subcontainer/user).

If you want to keep the members in a different subcontainer, you must modify the AUO provider, or you must include the subcontainer name and the user name.
