CG5: Error Message: "Clip Gallery Encountered an Error. Try Restarting Windows..." When You Insert Clip Art (262873)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to insert clip art in a program, you may receive the following error message:
Clip Gallery encountered an error. Try restarting Windows or reinstalling your applications.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Bypass Error Message

In some cases, you can correct this problem by clicking No when you receive the error message.

Method 2: Run Office Repair

Using the steps below, run repair from the appropriate Office 2000 CD-ROM.

  1. Close all programs that are open.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Microsoft Office 2000 installation, and then click Add/Remove.
  5. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
  6. In the Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, click to select Repair errors in my Office installation, and then click Finish.
  7. When the Office Repair is finished, you may be prompted to restart Windows. If you are, click Yes and let Windows restart.

Method 3: Register Artgalry.exe

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

In some cases the Clip Gallery program is not properly registered to run on your computer. To re-register the program, follow these steps:
  1. On the Start menu, point to Find, and click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type artgalry.exe and click Find Now.
  3. Double-click the Artgalry.exe icon.
  4. Click OK when you receive the following message:

    Clip Gallery is now configured to run on your computer

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
