MS-DOS Versions of DriveImage Cannot Operate on Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (262704)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q262704

SYMPTOMS

When DriveImage (1.0, 2.0, 3.0) is launched on Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the computer either stops responding with a black screen and blinking cursor in the upper left corner, or you receive the following error message:

This program runs in MS-DOS mode (real mode), which this version of Windows does not support. You can attempt to run this program in an MS-DOS window as follows:

Right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, click OK, and then click YES in the dialog that appears. Restart the program.

Or contact the program's manufacturer for an updated version.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because DriveImage is an MS-DOS based program. Because Windows Me does not provide real-mode MS-DOS support, DriveImage (all MS-DOS based versions) does not work on Windows Me.

STATUS

This is by design.

PowerQuest is working on an upgrade of DriveImage that works with Windows Me.
