Links LS Error Message: Unable to Retrieve Drive Information (262653)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Links LS 1998 Edition or Links LS 1999 Edition, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to retrieve drive information.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • Links LS was previously installed on the computer.
  • Links LS was not properly uninstalled from the computer.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, remove the Links LS 98 or Links LS 99 keys from the Microsoft Windows registry:
  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Open the appropriate registry key for your version of Links LS:Links LS 98:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Access\Links LS 98

    Links LS 99:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Access\Links LS 99

  3. On the Edit menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the key deletion, click Yes.
  4. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
If the issue continues to occur:
  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Open the appropriate registry key for your version of Links LS:Links LS 98:

    HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE\Software\Access Software Inc\Links LS 98

    Links LS 99:

    HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE\Software\Access Software Inc\Links LS 99

  3. On the Edit menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the key deletion, click Yes.
  4. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
