SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to move the Close Program dialog box with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) mouse, the mouse pointer may stop responding (hang).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, press the ESC key to regain control. Note that this workaround does not work if you are using a USB keyboard.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The problem addressed by this fix does not occur if you are using a non-USB mouse.
