Sometimes you may want a data access page to open in data entry mode and to allow users to add only new records. This article shows you how to create such a data access page.

CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. In the Database window, click Pages under Objects, and then click New.
  3. In the New Data Access Page dialog box, click AutoPage: Columnar, click Customers in the Choose the table or query where the object's data comes from box, and then click OK.
  4. On the View menu, click Design View.
  5. If the property sheet is not displayed, click Properties on the View menu.
  6. With the property sheet open, click Select Page on the Edit menu.
  7. Click the Data tab in the property sheet. Change the DataEntry property to True.
  8. On the View menu, click Page View. Note that the data access page opens to a new record.
