SYMPTOMS

FrontPage 2000 SR1:

When you create a new link from a *.url file, an incorrect local file path is returned, not the http:// address.

Issue: When you browse the local drive to create a link to a filename.url file, such as c:\windows\favorites\msn.url, an incorrect local file path is returned, instead of the http://website address.
 Application Information
	Title: FrontPage 2000 SR1
	Manufacturer: Microsoft
	Version: 9.0

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Install FrontPage 2000.
  2. Run the program from Start_Programs_Microsoft FrontPage.
  3. Click Insert_Hyperlink.
  4. Click the Browse button (second button to the right of the URL text box).
  5. Browse to c:\windows\favorites, select MSN, and then click OK.
Result: The local file path, file:///C:/WINDOWS/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/4HLLRHYM/redir[1].0&ar=IStart, is returned. Not only is this the incorrect path to return for a URL file, but it is also the wrong local file path (c:\windows\favorites\msn.url is the correct path).

Expected result: The following path should be returned:

http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&pver=5.0&ar=IStart

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. When you browse the local drive for a URL file to insert as a hyperlink, type *.url in the File name box of the Select File dialog box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Select the URL file that you want to use for the hyperlink, and then click OK.
