SYMPTOMS

When you are use the Accounting Made E-Z program from Made E-Z Products to open System Editor on a clean installation of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, the following error message appears and the program stops after you click OK:
The following program SYSEDIT.EXE is missing from Windows or one of its sub-directories. This program is part of Windows and NOT a part of this accounting program. As a courtesy for your ease of use, this accounting program simply helps you to run SYSEDIT which is part of Windows. Please re-install Windows to take advantage of this feature. If you have questions about re-installing Windows, contact the Vendor you had purchased this computer from or contact Microsoft. Please refer to your Computer or Microsoft Windows documentation for telephone numbers to contact these vendors. We do not provide technical support on these features.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Sysedit.exe is not included with Windows Millennium Edition. Accounting Made E-Z is designed to stop running after failure of an attempt to launch an executable file that does not exist within Accounting Made E-Z.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You should receive an error message that indicates System Editor is not available, but Accounting Made E-Z should not shut down. The System Editor (Sysedit.exe) is not installed with Windows Millennium Edition, but it is available if the installation was an upgrade from an operating system that did include System Editor.
