Error Message After Upgrading HP Computer to Windows Millennium Edition (261682)

SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer for the first time after you upgrade from a Microsoft Windows 98 operating system to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you may receive the following error message:
HP Remote DMI Agent for TCP/IP: TCP/IP Protocol not installed, aborting

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you upgrade your Windows 98-based Hewlett-Packard (HP) Brio computer to Windows Me, and the following conditions are true:
  • You installed Windows 98 using the software provided with your HP Brio computer, or your HP Brio computer came with Windows 98 already installed.
  • All of the HP software and services are installed on your HP Brio computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, restart your computer.
