Identical Scanners or Cameras with Different Friendly Names Display Only One Data Source in Kodak Imaging (261589)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q261589 If this article does not describe your hardware-related issue, please see the following Microsoft Web site to view more articles about hardware: SYMPTOMS
When two instances of a scanner (or camera) are connected to your computer, only one data source is available for selection in Kodak Imaging, even though both instances of the scanner (or camera) work properly. This may also occur if there are two physically separate but identical devices installed on your computer, for example, two identical scanner models that are each attached to a separate Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on your computer.
CAUSE
This issue can occur because the TWAIN compatibility layer uses device description as the data source name. The device description for identical devices does not change when you rename the device. For example, the Hewlett-Packard 6200C scanner displays the same device description text even if you rename the device "My Scanner", or another device name.
