USB Camera That Is Streaming Hangs in Hibernate and Standby Modes (261569)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q261569

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a Microsoft Windows Millennium-based computer with an attached universal serial bus (USB) video camera, if you start recording a file with the video camera and then immediately put your computer into hibernate or standby mode, your camera may stop responding (hang). When you resume from hibernate or standby mode, the video image may be frozen.

CAUSE

This issue can occur when you are using NEC PCAM-QU drivers. Device drivers require special code to enable hibernation, and the NEC PCAM-QU drivers do not contain that code, nor do they block hibernate and standby modes.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, contact the vendor of your USB camera to request a driver update.
